The Director of the Sno Valley Winds is Mr. Mike Herb. Mr. Herb has been a music educator at Silas (formerly Wilson) High School in Tacoma, WA for 20 years. At Silas he directs two concert bands, the Percussion ensemble, a jazz band, the marching and pep bands, as well as teaching a beginning guitar class. He is a proud graduate of Central Washington University and the American Band College having worked under the batons of: Larry Gookin, Paul-Eliot Cobbs, Andrew Spencer, Dan Schmidt, David Holsinger, Philippe Langlet, Frank Wickes, Ray Cramer, Robert W. Smith, Mike Bankhead, Bruce Dinkins, Ralph Hultgren, Robert Ponto, Lowell Graham, Tony Maiello, and Jan Van Der Roost.
Mike has played trumpet at part of the Moon Valley Brass Quintet, a sub-set of the sno valley winds. He is also a member of the trumpet section of the Northwest Wind Symphony and has played regularly with the Boxley’s Pro-Am Big Band. Mr. Herb is a member of NAfME, the national association for music education, as well as a member of WMEA (Washington Music Educators Association)
